Over the weekend Evan Gideon and Kyle went to North Houston to compete in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament. This was the first tournament for Galveston BJJ. It was also a perfect beginning tournament for the new Mixed Martial Arts School here on the Island. Overall Galveston BJJ did good they ended up bringing home 2 medals one gold and one silver.
Kyle was the first up doing the teens division. In his first match Kyle was able to get to his position and get the Kimora locked on for the tap. The next fight was going to be a little tougher. Kyle was able to get to his position and lock on the Kimora but was never able to finish the submission. Kyle ended up losing the match 3-0. But the silver medal performance was still very good for the first timer.
The next person up to fight was Evan Gideon. He had two matches against some good opponents. The two fighters were both from GFT (Grappling Fight Team) out of Houston, TX. The first match was a all out battle. Evan was down 2-0 for the entire match but was able to pull off a arm bar for the win. In the second match Galveston BJJ's instructor Evan Gideon was able to rack up a lot of points winning 20-0 for the gold medal.
Overall the tournament was a success. Everyone had fun and ended up bringing home some medals. Keep your eyes open around Texas. Galveston BJJ will be making their name attending all the tournaments and bringing home some hardware!
